The Singing Group of the Yateley & District U3A is known as The Rainbow Singers, and was formed in 2003 with 15 members.
We now number 35. As ever, the men are outnumbered so we are always pleased to welcome tenors (there must be some more out there!) and of course basses/baritones. In spite of this, they are very enthusiastic and make a huge contribution to the Group, as do the Ladies of course.
There is no audition on joining, and although a knowledge of music is useful, it is not essential as members are always willing to help. Many people say "I can't sing but I'd love to" - we offer the opportunity to give it a try; you never know what pleasure singing together can be, unless you give it the chance, and there is no doubt that performing in front of an appreciative audience, however small, gives a "buzz".
Our repertoire is varied and light, which appeals to the singers as well as our audiences. Rehearsals are very relaxed and fun, but not at the expense of the standard we aim for. We entertain at various venues and have produced a number of shows. In 2007 we held a two-night show which was enjoyed by full houses both nights.
Apart from the enjoyment and socialising which singing together brings, it is also very good healthwise, as it encourages good breathing.
